Master Bathroom – Private Villa

The master bathroom is covered entirely in mosaic, in a beige, white and gold palette drawn for this room alone. The pattern was designed to the room as built, its proportions, the curve of the wall, the marble flooring already in place, and set out so the motif bends with the curve yet still stands upright, reading whole from the door. From there it is handwork. Every piece is cut and laid by hand, and the hand is what you see: the gold catches the light where a machine would have kept it flat, and the beige melts into the white so the motif appears and disappears as the day moves. Gold and white mix across the bath, the steps and the backsplash; beige and white across the walls. Three colours, one skin, and not a surface in the room left untouched.
